THE TESTING UNIT
The Testing Unit has been established to prepare assessment tools like quizzes, mid-terms, final exams according to the syllabus to provide data for the curriculum being taught and more generally for monitoring the students’ achievement during the preparatory program. The Testing Unit is also responsible for preparing and administering the Pîrî Reis University English Language Proficiency Exam for undergraduate and graduate students who are newly accepted, and students who want to transfer to Pîrî Reis University from other universities.
The Testing Unit works in close cooperation with and under the supervision of the level coordinators and Measurement & Evaluation and Technical Support Unit and Material and Curriculum Development Unit. The Testing Unit is also supported by the English Preparatory Department in terms of administrative procedures.
THE CURRICULUM AND MATERIAL DEVELOPMENT UNIT
The Curriculum and Material Development Unit is a part of the Pîrî Reis University English Preparatory Department and plays an important role in this regard. This unit is responsible for the preparation and development of the curriculum of the English preparatory program, which lasts throughout the academic year. It also examines the books that are decided to be used in the Preparatory Department curriculum, plans, and develops materials to complement the curriculum, taking into account our educational philosophy.
THE MEASUREMENT & EVALUATION AND TECHNICAL SUPPORT UNIT
The Measurement & Evaluation and Technical Support Unit provides technical support throughout the educational activities of the English Preparatory Department. Data is collected to reveal the effectiveness of our education goals. Detailed statistical analyses and evaluation of the collected data are carried out in order to identify the deficiencies and strengths of the applied exams. Data results are shared with administrative and academic staff.
This unit, working in coordination with the administration and lecturers, determines the needs of the students and deals with the problems regarding digital books, online courses, and online exams to provide help both for students and instructors, taking into consideration the philosophy and aims of the department.
QUALİTY AND ACCREDİTATİON UNİT
Quality is a process of self-regulation and demonstrates how an effective management system can be established, documented, and maintained. The purpose of accreditation is to ensure that education provided by English Preparatory Department meets acceptable levels of quality requirements as outlined in the accrediting authorities internationally. Under this focus area, the unit plays a major role by:
· Following the English Prep Department educational accreditation processes;
· Facilitating level-based self-evaluations in accordance with accreditation standards;
· Coordinating assessments for the accreditation visits;
· Supporting the English Preparatory Department in documentation;
· Completing the requirements for obtaining institutional accreditation according to the international standards;
· Following accreditation studies throughout the English Preparatory Department and to consult with experience sharing
PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT UNIT
Personal development consists of activities that develop a person’s potentials and capabilities, facilitate employability, and enhance quality of teaching process. The main aim of this unit is to assist lecturers to reflect broadly on academic work and personal experience. The unit plays a major role by:
● Determining the needs of lecturers and English Preparatory Department;
● Promoting a culture of quality and continuous improvement through trainings, workshops, seminars, and conferences
● Informing new lecturers about the department and the education system
