Elektrik-Elektronik Mühendisliği

  • Program Information

Electrical-Electronics Engineering is an engineering discipline that started to develop at the beginning of the 19th century, which has been in daily life for the past century and facilitated it, played an important role in the emergence of technological products by increasing the quality of life and caused the emergence of many new fields. In our country, which is growing rapidly in every field, in addition to being a profession that is needed first in the industry, the demand for Electrical and Electronics Engineers will continue to increase in the future, especially in research and development, design, production, automation and management.

The field covered by Electrical and Electronics Engineering can be clustered in two general groups. The first group includes energy and power systems and it is called Electrical Engineering. Electrical engineering deals with the production, transmission and distribution of electrical energy using various and sustainable energy sources, lighting systems, application of electrical machines and its control. The second group is called Electronic Engineering and it includes the field of electronics and communication technologies. Electronic Engineering deals with all devices produced with electronic technology, microprocessor and micro control related to  communication technologies and computer technology, intelligent robot technology with automation and control. In brief, Electrical and Electronics Engineers are the pioneers of modern technologies that accomplish the most creative and difficult tasks. Electrical and Electronics Engineers tasks is often to design, manufacture and develop everything from communication networks and supercomputers to digital control systems and modern devices.

As the Electrical and Electronics Engineering department of Piri Reis University, we train future electrical and electronic engineers who are experts in electrical and electronics sub-fields, competent to research, close to the industry with a broad vision in an environment-friendly and award-winning green campus with laboratories equipped with advanced technological devices, experienced and expert academic staff, Erasmus student exchange program and Turkey Higher Education Qualifications Framework engineering education at the undergraduate level given for the Bologna Process objectives.

The language of instruction in our department is 100% English. Students who are accepted to the department of Mechanical Engineering transfer to our department after taking an average of 1 year of English education within a modular education system compatible with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Students of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering take basic science courses, engineering sciences and engineering design courses and social, economics and administrative science courses throughout their education. The Electrical and Electronics Engineering study programme is designed to supply the needs of the world and our country, and to aim not only the designs, theories and applications of electronics, communication, control, signal processing and electricity (power) disciplines but also the solution of problems arising in technological, economic and social fields. The study programme designed for the students of the Department of Electrical and Electronics is generally as follows:

  • Years one and two  follow a core porgramme covering the basic science subjects related to mathematics, physics, statistics and general engineering, including computer algorithms and programming, as well as the basic courses of electrical and electronics engineering, the fundamentals of electrical and electronic circuits, electromagnetic fields, signals and systems.

  • In third year, courses are given  such as electromagnetic waves, communication systems, logic circuits, fundamentals of energy conversion and power systems, microprocessors and control systems, which form the basis of electrical and electronics engineering.

  • In fourth year, Students prepare an dissertation  project by using their own creativity, knowledge and existing technology with the experience which is  gained in balanced courses on theory, design and application. In addition, a wide range of elective courses are selected by the students in disciplines such as electronics, communication, control, signal processing, electricity (power) and computers in order to specialize them in certain subjects. Thus, students who graduate from our department can aim to pursue a career in one of the areas mentioned above.

Students who graduate from the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering receive a balanced education in theory, design and application. In addition, during the period of study they acquire skills such as technical report writing and presentation, which are frequently used and have an important place in business life. During the study period, it is also given opportunities to our students to participate in the research activities of the department. Furthermore, there are various social and engineering related clubs at our university where students can join and improve themselves. In our department, students who meet the requirements determined by our university have the opportunity to do a double major and minor in another departments they are interested in.

The students of our department can spend a certain period of their education in a contracted European higher education institution within the scope of the ERASMUS student exchange program. Our students studying in a different country can both improve their foreign language and create an international network for themselves.

Turkey’s first and only marine-themed university, Piri Reis University, as in all sectors,  applications of electrical and electronics engineering  have  recently increased  in the maritime sector in this reason the study programme of the department is designed to include these applications.  The prominent applications of electrical and electronics engineering in the sector nowadays include  integrated navigation systems that consist of radar, communications, GPS,  and computer subsystems,  electrical power generation and distribution systems, electronic control of  these power systems, and robotics. It is expected that developments in these technologies will  provide  for more automatic and autonomous  ships powered by electric systems.

  • Mission

The aim of the department is to train qualified researchers and engineers by engaging in education, research and industrial application activities at the level of modern science and technology in the fields of Electrical-Electronics, Communication and Computer Technology; To contribute to the studies of the country and regional organizations through research and development, to contribute to the knowledge, experience and application accumulation in the fields of activity with regular research studies.

  • Vision

Our vision is to be a department that  reach international standards in undergraduate education and training that educates creative and leading engineers who follows new developments in their discipline, able to design original systems and competing on a global scale, sensitive to universal values and internalizing professional ethics, use knowledge and technology for the welfare and happiness of the society.
