Sports at Piri Reis University
Piri Reis University is active in many branches of sports. The university’s sports activities aim to help students develop their skills and talents, have a quality time, and contribute to their physical health development by improving their physical abilities outside of academic and cultural activities.
Sports activities at the university are carried out by expert coaches in three main areas:
• University team practices
• Free training sessions
• Inter-university competitions
The university offers the following facilities for students and staff: one multipurpose sports room, a closed gymnasium with standard dimensions for basketball, volleyball, and handball, one open-air sports field for basketball and volleyball, and a swimming pool. Additionally, there are 3 women’s and 5 men’s changing rooms.
Our university sports teams, including basketball, volleyball, futsal (indoor football), table tennis, swimming, and water polo, continue their training under the guidance of coaches throughout the academic year. In individual sports, if students show proficiency, they are given the opportunity to participate in the Turkey University Sports Federation competitions.
During the 2018-2019 academic year, 112 student-athletes from our university teams earned the right to benefit from our athlete scholarship. Moreover, three new registered students earned the 100% National Athlete Scholarship through the protocol signed with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and they decided to continue their education at our university.
