Greenport Alliances Project Stakeholders Conference

March 1, 2024

Piri Reis University, being the coordinator of the GREENPORT ALLIANCES Project, has successfully convened the Kick-off meeting and Stakeholders Conference alongside nine project partners from seven countries on February 28-29, 2024. With a focused lens on the often-neglected realm of “port services” under the European Union’s Green Deal initiative for decarbonizing the maritime sector, GREENPORT ALLIANCES is geared towards crafting behavior-oriented training programs tailored for smaller vessels such as tugboats, pilot boats, and their respective personnel, with the aim of fostering sustainability within ports and maritime operations.

The “Stakeholders Conference,” marking the project’s initial milestone, witnessed robust engagement from key stakeholders spanning the maritime industry and educational institutions alike. During this event, the delineation of roles and commitments to be undertaken by project partners over the course of the 36-month was unveiled. Representatives from the Turkish maritime sector including Sanmar Shipyards, the Turkish Shipbuilders’ Association (GISBIR), Yanmar Holding, Sakura Marine, Kilyos Shipping, Kamer Marine, GDS Engineering, CSS Turkey, NAVTEK, Gübretaş Port, GISAŞ Port, and the Turkish Pilots Association actively participated in the conference. Insights into innovative strategies for reducing carbon emissions within the sector were shared through presentations delivered by representatives from Turkon Line and GISAŞ.
